Dear Researchers and Research Enthusiasts,
Hope that the new semester has been awesome for you all! We are proud to announce our third judge for the SHMRC. She is a Winthrop Professor of Respiratory Medicine and a familiar face during the UWA OSCE exams. She is the other returning judge for this year’s SHMRC: Professor Fiona Lake!
Professor Fiona Lake holds the Eric Saint Chair of Medicine at the University of Western Australia and is a Respiratory Physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth.
Her clinical work includes running the Interstitial Lung Disease clinic at SCGH aiming to provide a multidisciplinary service providing diagnosis and comprehensive management. Understanding patent wishes is a key focus in such patients. She has worked at ways to improve the quality of life for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and with colleagues, established a community based COPD service. Through clinical work and educational initiatives she works to promote better interprofessional care and hospital linkage to community based services and GPs to provide ongoing care.
In her academic practice, she has a major focus on medical education, both in training health professionals through curriculum development, implementation and accreditation, and in training the supervisors. With a small number of colleagues she established the Teaching on the Run program and subsequently the TELL Centre. With trained collaborators they run up to 40 workshops a month around Australia and New Zealand, training clinicians to be better teachers and supervisors.
